Carlos Capucho

Carlos Barroso Capucho born in Lisbon, 1940. He taught in High School for ten years. Between 1972 and 1973, he made a trainingship in Centre Recherche et Communication, Lyon and a post graduation in Educative Audiovisual Communication in Université Catholique, in Lyon, France.

In 1971, he founds the Audiovisual Research Association, active until 1986. In 1975 he creates the Audiovisual Production Center, where he worked until 1986. Also in this year, he collaborated in the foundation of Logomedia, where he worked as a trainer and a film director. He obtained in 1995, by unanimity, the academic degree of Master in Multimedia Educational Communication (Very Good), in Universidade Aberta, with a research thesis about the symbolic´s role in the educational audiovisual. Between 1996 and 2001 he was Professor on the same master program.

At Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) he is Professor since 1999 in communication undergraduate disciplines. He was research scholar for the PhD program, by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT).

In 2005, at UCP, he obtained, by unanimity, the academic degree of PhD in Communication Sciences (Summa Cum Laude). The thesis developed an educational perspective about film’s exhibition in the portuguese commercial circuit (1974/1999). The thesis will be published in the first trimester of 2008 by UCP Publisher with the financial support of FCT.

Carlos Capucho is now coordinator of the undergraduate program Cultural and Social Communication and of the post graduation in Television and Cinema. He is Professor in disciplines of Cinema on the master program Communication Sciences and member of the U.C.P. Communication and Cultural Research Center.
