Maria Isabel Casanova

Isabel Casanova graduated in Germanic Philology before taking her Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in English Linguistics at the Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon. She is now Associate Professor in the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Catholic University of Portugal and a specialist in Contrastive and Lexicographical Studies.

Among her current core teaching competences are Master’s degree level lecturing in Linguistics Applied to English Language Teaching with key publications including: Manual de Linguística Inglesa (Manual of English Linguistics), Linguística Contrastiva: O Ensino da Língua Inglesa (Contrastive Linguistics: Teaching English), A Língua no Fio da Navalha. Ensaio para um Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa (Language on the Razor's Edge: Rehearsals for a Portuguese Language Dictionary), in addition to the Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa (Dictionary of the Portuguese Language) and specialist language consultancy on the Portuguese first and second editions of the Larousse Encyclopedia. Now preparing Textos Históricos de Grandes Lexicógrafos (Historic Texts of Great Lexicographers) and a book called Noções Fundamentais de Linguística (Fundamental Notions of Linguistics).
