Patrícia Dias
Patrícia Dias (1980-...) is Lecturer at the School of Human Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) and also at the Superior School of Economic Sciences at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. She has graduated in Social Communication (2003) and has a Master degree in Communication, Organization and New Technologies (2006), both at UCP.
Her research in communication sciences focuses the use of new technologies in daily life and its social impact. Her publications and presentations include the following: “O Impacto do Telemóvel na Sociedade Contemporânea: Panorama de Investigação em Ciências Sociais” (2007), in Revista Comunicação & Cultura, n.º 3, Lisbon: Quimera; “O Telemóvel e o Quotidiano” (2007); “Second Life: a Second Chance for Social Responsibility?” (2007), ICT, Transparency and Social Responsibility Carnegie-Mellon and FECC/UCP Conference; O Telemóvel e o Quotidiano (forthcoming), Lisbon: Paulus.
Currently, she is preparing her PhD project in Communication Sciences, which will start in September 2008 at UCP, about the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Portuguese small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the economic potential of Web 2.0. She is also developing several other projects within the “Technology and Society” research field at UCP’s Centre of Studies in Communication and Culture (CECC).
